How to Make Fitness a Habit

Fitness can be elusive. We all want to be fit but we can’t quite seem to make it happen.

The challenge is that fitness improves gradually day to day, so it requires many days to really create a significant impact.

That’s where we falter; we are unable to make a habit out of the behaviors that will make us fit.

At Perfect Fit we truly believe that fitness is a lifestyle, so try these top tips we live by to make fitness part of your life.

1. Make fitness more social

It can be tough to stick with your exercise if you try to do it alone. Find an exercise partner or as we like to call it, an “accountability buddy”.

When you can share the time with others, you have something else to focus on besides how tired, sweaty, and bored you are.

At the time of writing our in-person studio is restricted from operating in lockdown. However, clients can still get a personal trainer as their accountability buddy. So if you need that additional support this is by far the best way to kickstart any new fitness lifestyle.

2. Make little changes

Becoming fit requires adopting several new habits. However, for the greatest success, it’s highly recommended that you don’t try to make a giant leap all at once.

Focus on making tiny improvements. Tiny habits as they say. This is the science-backed method that will help you create habits to be healthier, happier, and more productive.

Remember little changes every single day add up.

Tiny habits every single day will get you big results!

3. Make it a priority

Do you put off exercising because there are too many other things going on in your life? The truth is if you’re going to be successful in this area of your life, it has to be a top priority. The less enjoyable something is, the more it will have to be prioritised to get it done successfully.

It’s one of the most important things we need to make space and time for in our lives.

4. Make it enjoyable

Obviously, keeping up with your fitness routine is going to be a lot easier if you enjoy the activity. So find something you enjoy; think about the physical activities you enjoyed as a child or in high school. What can you do today with your family, kids or friends?

Another alternative is to take an activity and find ways to make it more enjoyable. For example, running might be a lot more fun if you train specifically for a race. You could also find new places to run. Look for trails or go exploring.

5. Take the first step

The most important thing is to just get started. Avoid the temptation to have everything perfectly in place before you take a single step. Just throw on your shoes and go for a walk. Decide to skip the donut and have an apple instead. You can start with these simple decisions.

You don’t need to plan your exercise routine for the next 6 months. You’re not trying to launch the space shuttle; you’re just going to move around more than you have been in the recent past.

If getting out of the house is difficult, then do something at home. Try out an online workout. And I do mean “try” as in we offer a 7-day trial for our online program. Give it a go.

Getting in shape is the result of taking the proper actions repeatedly over an extended period of time.

We believe, to build good habits, you need at least 21 days.

That’s why we have designed our 21-day challenge to do just that – to help you start and build good habits towards your fitness. And oh, you might just lose some weight and get fitter too.

You can check out our 21-day reset challenge program here.

In lockdown? Don’t worry – you can still do the program from home with our online training program as part of the workout section.

Fitness doesn’t miraculously improve in a day, so making a habit of the behaviors that improve fitness has to be a priority.

Focus on making tiny habits stick and making these as enjoyable as possible will see you through the process. You can do it!
